Article 9 of the Consorcio's Legal Statutes establishes the following:

  1. The Consorcio will take on the cover of the liability risk deriving from nuclear accidents occurring in Spain, as follows:
    • In the event that all of the insurance entities do not reach the minimum limit of liability envisaged by Law 25/1964 dated 29th April which regulates nuclear energy, the Consorcio will participate and cover the difference up to the indicated limit.
    • It will act as a reinsurer in the manner and up to the amount established by the Ministry of Economy and Treasury.
  2. For the purposes of the Legal Statutes, nuclear accident is understood to be that which is defined as such in article 2.17 of Law 25/1964, dated 29th April, which regulates nuclear energy.
